Steel I Wagon construction began in 1902 and continued until 1907 in both 12 and 15 ton capacity. QuVic’s model is representative of I wagon designs which evolved through the 1920’S. They feature underframes similar in design top the B wagon.
In 1929 the I wagons were split into basic capacity groups. The sub classes were: those with a 15 ton capacity became I; those with an 8/10/11 ton capacity became ‘IB” and those with a dual capacity of 11/16 ton became ‘IA’.
Both I and IA class wagons can be built from this kit to represent either a 1920-1958 era or a 1958-1972 scheme.
